2000 - Launches an IPO of CyberAgent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

2015 - At the age of 42, becomes 43rd richest person in Japan, and one of only 4 people in Forbes Japan's Richest 2015 under the age of 50.

"Our goal is to create a company that is the hallmark of the 21st century providing internet based services around the world."

CyberAgent president Susumu Fujita

Under Mr. Fujita's leadership, CyberAgent has rejected Japan's cutthroat gakureki shakai (学歴社会), or "educationally-credentialized society", wherein exam results, university name prestige and networking are more important than specific skills and ability of graduates.

CyberAgent's technical recruitment webpage for university graduates notes that the company does not care about university name, major, status (not yet graduated or recently graduated), whether you are an undergraduate or a graduate student.

Under the custom of shinsotsu ikkatsu saiyou (新卒一括採用), almost every major Japanese company will hire university graduates simultaneously. This occurs once a year, in April, after graduation in March, and it is necessary to recieve offers of employment a year in advance. It is virtually impossible for university graduates to attain a seishain (正社員, "full-time employee") position at most Japanese companies outside of this period, or later in life.

CyberAgent rejects this rigid model of job hunting. Mr. Fujita's father was a salaryman at Kanebo, a large Japanese cosmetics conglomerate. He disliked the idea of being a salaryman like his father and vowed to create his own company. At CyberAgent, pay is based on skill instead of seniority; this has been covered by BBC News (click here for the Japanese-language version).

In the United States, the companies of the 20th century were companies like RCA, Kodak, Standard Oil, Honeywell and GE; but the companies of the 21st century will be companies like Google, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, Alibaba and Tesla Motors. Likewise, in Japan, the companies of the 20th century were Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Mitsui and Nomura; the companies of the 21st century will be Mercari, creww, Kaizen Platform, Spiber and MUJIN...all these companies have CyberAgent and Mr. Fujita to thank for spearheading this transition.

If you have time, you should read more about this visionary businessman on his entry at the Japanese Wikipedia.
