Any URL's added here will be added as
s in order, and before the CSS in the editor. If you link to another Pen, it will include the CSS from that Pen. If the preprocessor matches, it will attempt to combine them before processing.

JavaScript

Babel includes JSX processing.

Add External Scripts/Pens

Any URL's added here will be added as s in order, and run before the JavaScript in the editor. You can use the URL of any other Pen and it will include the JavaScript from that Pen.

How to implement a CSS placeholder for contenteditable elements

  2016/06/22

If you want to use smilies or images in text areas oder input fields you will need to use contenteditable="true" elements instead.
But the placeholder attribute will not work there. Therefore I present a way to do it with CSS only.

  div[contenteditable][placeholder]:empty:not(:focus):before {
    content: attr(placeholder);
    color: #aaa;
  }

This CSS code takes DIVs with contenteditable and placeholder attributes and prepends the placeholder's content (
:before
) to the content,
if the DIV is empty (
:empty
) and not focused (
:not(:focus)
).
If you do not want to undisplay the placeholder on focus, just leave the
:not(:focus)
part out.

Firefox uses to show the placeholder, but once you typed something and empty the field again, it will not show the placeholder again.
