Mark
Evans

About Me

I'm a traveller, linguist, enthusiast of life who currently resides in Vietnam. I made a major career move in late in 2017 and left a very good corporate job on a sabbatical to follow a dream I'd had for a long time: becoming a Web Creator.

Since then, I've been actively learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript and also a little bit of SVG. Each day is a new adventure of discovery and exploration. To keep things fresh, I'm also working on some long-delayed fitness goals in strength, endurance, and particularly in Muay Thai. When I'm not feeding my brain - but killing my eyes - in front of a computer, I can usually be found in the ring trying not to get knocked out, and maybe sometimes actually doing the knocking out!

My most recent projects are a site for my old dive instructor who also recently took the plunge into freelance work and a hotel website for a friend of his. I try to ensure each project stretches my limits and gives me something new to learn. At 35, one things I've learned is it is never to late to learn that you are a multipotentialite, which is a new and more appealing way of saying you're a jack of all trades. Plenty of time left to become a master of at least a few of those trades. The curiosity and perseverance to keep learning is the greatest wealth you can have in the new millenium, and the best way to learn is to experiment. Fail once, fail twice, fail again. "Fail early, fail hard and fail often" as Will Smith aptly put it.

My next travel destinations, two countries I've never been to, are Laos and Taiwan. Two very different places that are bound to inspire. After the former, I'll have been at least once to almost all countries in Southeast Asia. Vietnam is the country I currently call home. That leaves only once country left to visit: Myanmar. There's plenty of exploration left to do in all of them though. I recently toured through the south of the Rising Dragon on motorbike and will without a doubt be booking another trip on the back of my Yamaha Fz150i to see the north of this incredible country.
