Add External Stylesheets/Pens

Any URL's added here will be added as
s in order, and before the CSS in the editor. If you link to another Pen, it will include the CSS from that Pen. If the preprocessor matches, it will attempt to combine them before processing.

+ add another resource

Babel is required to process package imports. If you need a different preprocessor remove all packages first.

Add External Scripts/Pens

Any URL's added here will be added as s in order, and run before the JavaScript in the editor. You can use the URL of any other Pen and it will include the JavaScript from that Pen.

1796 - in May, Jenner diagnosed cowpox, instead of smallpox on the hand of a dairymaid, Sarah Nelmes.

May 14th, intruiged by the fokelore that cowpox protected one from smallpox he made a few small scratches on the arm of 8 year old James Phipps who had not had smallpox. He rubbed, into the scratches, some material from one of the pocks on Sarah's hand.

On July 1st, Jenner variolated the boy with smallpox. To everyones great relief, James did not develop smallpox, either on this occasion or on any subsequent exposure.

Soon thereafter, he coined the word vaccine. The terms vaccine and vaccination are derived from Variolae vaccinae which is Latin for smallpox of the cow.

The fate of smallpox had been sealed.

1980 - Nearly 2 centuries after his discovery, the WHO formally declares: "Smallpox is Dead!"
