       <p style="padding-top: 20px">Stephen Sondheim was born in New York City in 1930. After his parents'd divorce his mother raised him in Pennsylvania. He would later discribe his mother, with aversion, as a "celebrity hunter." This had one upside, as she often put him in the
        care of Dorothy and Oscar Hammerstein who lived nearby.</p>
       <blockquote class="text-primary">
        "Oscar Hammerstein was a surrogate father during all those many days, and weeks and months when I didn't see my own father."
       </blockquote>
       <p>Because of this, Stephen decided he too would become a musical lyracist, with Oscar as his greatest mentor and influence.

				<blockquote class="text-primary">"He is now the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theater." — <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2000/03/12/magazine/conversations-with-sondheim.html" target="_blank">The New York Times</a> </blockquote>
				<p>He won the Hutchinson Prize for Music Composition, the Kennedy Center Honor for Lifetime Achievement, the Tony Award for a Lifetime Achievement in Theatre, and now has the Broadway theatre at West 43rd Street named afer him.</p>
