The Creative Developer will help guide the interaction and creative development of web applications and interfaces with a significant focus on user experiences and dynamic storytelling. Working with a team of designers, editors, product owners and developers, this position will be involved in all phases of digital projects, products and stories. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional portfolio demonstrating user innovations, particularly for mobile devices.

Responsibilities Write elegant front-end code for highly-visual, interactive, experiences. Work with design, product and technology teams to create editorial tools that push the boundaries of digital storytelling. Create a library of interactive components that can be easily utilized by the newsroom and editorial teams. Create high-level storyboards, wireframes and prototypes that effectively communicate interaction and design ideas. Collaborate on best practices for developing interactive experiences with map, graphic and technology teams. Develop documentation, maintain code libraries and style guides. Conduct research on industry and technology trends, and continually innovate on digital products that align with National Geographic’s brand standards.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Graphic Design, UX or HCI Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML and CSS; working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3; responsive design AT least 2 years of experience with data visualization, frameworks and data libraries is a plus Experience with video, audio and photography is preferred Division Description
