Add External Stylesheets/Pens

Any URL's added here will be added as <link>s in order, and before the CSS in the editor. If you link to another Pen, it will include the CSS from that Pen. If the preprocessor matches, it will attempt to combine them before processing.

+ add another resource

You're using npm packages, so we've auto-selected Babel for you here, which we require to process imports and make it all work. If you need to use a different JavaScript preprocessor, remove the packages in the npm tab.

Add External Scripts/Pens

Any URL's added here will be added as <script>s in order, and run before the JavaScript in the editor. You can use the URL of any other Pen and it will include the JavaScript from that Pen.

Use npm Packages

We can make npm packages available for you to use in your JavaScript. We use webpack to prepare them and make them available to import. We'll also process your JavaScript with Babel.

  <br>
  <p class="text-left">Masahiko Kimura was born on September 10, 1917 in Kumamoto, Japan. Kimura began training Judo at age of 9 and was promoted to yondan (4th dan) at the age of 15 after six years of Judo. In 1935 at age 18 he became the youngest ever godan (5th degree
    black belt) when he defeated eight consecutive opponents at Kodokan (headquarters for the main governing body of Judo).
    <br>
    <br> Kimura reportedly lost only four judo matches in his lifetime, all occurring in 1935. He considered quitting judo after those losses, but through the encouragement of friends he began training again. He consistently practiced the leg throw <b>osoto
    gari</b> (large outer reap) against a tree. At the height of his career Kimura's training involved a thousand push-ups and nine-hours practice every day. He was promoted to 7th dan at age 30, a rank that was frozen after disputes with Kodokan over
    becoming a professional wrestler, refusing to return the All Japan Judo Championship flag, and issuing dan ranks while in Brazil.

  <p class="text-left">In 1951, Helio Gracie issued a challenge to Kimura which was accepted. Kimura was much larger than Helio, but that did not stop the Brazilian fans from anticipating victory. Kimura and Helio met in front of a crowd of 20,000 and Gracie's fans brought
    a coffin to the match, meant for Kimura once their chosen competitor was done with him. The outcome however would not be to the crowd's liking.
    <br>
    <br> Hélio Gracie was a Brazilian martial artist who, together with his brother Carlos Gracie, founded the martial art of Gracie jiu-jitsu and with Luiz França and Oswaldo Fadda the martial art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ). Like its parent style of
    Judo, BJJ techniques allows smaller and weaker practitioners the capability to defend themselves and even defeat much larger opponents.
    <br>
    <br> While Kimura was able to take Gracie down at will and gain position on him, he struggled to submit the smaller man. Kimura attempted a variety of submissions but Helio escaped time after time. At about the ten minute mark Kimura pinned Gracie
    with a north-south hold. After further holds by the Japanese, Gracie looked unable to breathe under Kimura but he persevered, until he tried to switch position by pushing with his arm. Kimura was able to secure the arm and lock his favorite finishing
    technique, the <b>reverse ude-garami</b> shoulder lock. This time there was no escape for Gracie and when he refused to tap Kimura broke his arm. Even then Helio refused to give in and it was his instructor and older brother, Carlos Gracie, who threw
    in the towel.<br></p>

  <p class="text-left">Kimura was impressed with the skill of the Brazilian and awarded him a 6th dan black belt in Judo. To honor the Japanese Judoka's victory the Gracie family would, from this point on, refer to the reverse ude-garami as "the Kimura lock".</p>
