                <p>This is a Chrome v27 specific styling bug:<br/>
What is with that clear button (x) positioning?</p>

<div class="question">
  <label for="startDate1">Date:</label>
  <input type='date' class="padding-small" id='startDate1' value="2011-01-01" min="2011-01-01" max="2011-12-31" />

<div class="question">
  <label for="startDate2">Date:</label>
  <input type='date' class="padding-med" id='startDate2' value="2011-01-01" min="2011-01-01" max="2011-12-31" />

<div class="question">
  <label for="startDate3">Date:</label>
  <input type='date' class="padding-large" id='startDate3' value="2011-01-01" min="2011-01-01" max="2011-12-31" />

<p>UPDATE: Looks like this has already been logged as a <a href="" target="_blank">Chromium bug</a>.</p>

                body { padding: 0 1em; background: #EEE; }
.question { margin-bottom: 1.5em; }
label { margin-right: 0.5em; }

// date input
input[type="date"] {
  padding: 6px;
  border-radius: 5px;
  border: solid 1px #CCC;

input[type="date"].padding-small {
  padding-right: 0px;
input[type="date"].padding-med {
  padding-right: 25px;
input[type="date"].padding-large {
  padding-right: 70px;

The clear button (x) on the HTML5 date input in latest chrome (I am running version 27.0.1453.116) which, after much searching, can be styled with ::-webkit-clear-button. However its position seems to be buggy when padding is added to the right side of the input. Not that its click area is still where you would expect it to be while the graphic is off to the right.
