Please Don't Learn To Code From Stock Photos
Is that a random document.write
in the <head>
not in <script>
tags? Good luck with that hoss. Nice charset too. Wait. Does that say <script type="text/computert">
?
Listen we all like having two wrapper <div>
s around every table within a table cell with inline styles on it, but we had to stop doing that because it turns out other people use the internet too.
Make sure you qualify that .header-button
with #header
because you'll probably want to be using that same class in the #footer
and style it totally differently right. And of course make sure you only style those li
's that are decendents of a ul
too, because they so often aren't.
I don't know about your code editor, but in mine when I set it to Party Mode it turns to Helvetica too.
All websites should end with:
<!-- End of Code forWeb -->
Better make damn sure the background color of the body is white because otherwise who knows what it might end up.
We don't always use class names. But when we do, we prefer them like y-fp-pg-controls
.
Sometimes we just need to update some of the mages. Other times we need to update Alll the mages. And when we do, we're going to thrash the DOM with our magic number loop because we CAN.
Listen I can do this OK because I've never written any bad code in my life.
I like how most of these are not using a monospaced font. That would do wonders for productivity.
Mr. Gray Shirt is pretty skilled with the writing-code-backwards-on-the-inside-of-a-window, though
I have so much to learn. On a related note, if anyone gives your toddler a board book called "HTML for Babies", burn it with fire.
@astearns: In all fairness, we have a lightboard at Udacity and when we use it, we mirror the image so the content appears correctly without us having to write backwards. Given the quality of the content though, it is much funnier to imagine Mr. Greyshirt having to write this all out backwards.
Wait, what? This is not how to do it?
Awesome. I tweeted at TED once because they used one of these on a "Learn to Code" article. The article was great, the code was crazy borked. To their credit, they later updated it, and I got a really nice email.
Laughed out loud at Party Mode
Also, I couldn't find `` in source... much disappoint.
This is why my dumb stock photos show good ol' jQuery - so smart people don't get to make fun of me :) http://de.fotolia.com/id/55386318
Additionally, never forget to put that
<a>
at the top of your html http://de.fotolia.com/id/46936225?by=similiaI disagree! > And of course make sure you only style those li's that are decendents of a ul too, because they so often aren't.
They might be doing ol li's later on, which still wouldn't make any sense since they're in a #nav already which (I hope) is a unique thing but I couldn't find anything better to say here so I just picked on that ul li's thing because I liked this post and wanted to comment something and didn't knew what else to say. breathe
Making fun of setting your background color to white? How soon we forget Underwear Showing!
The default color used to be gray back in the day!
> Better make damn sure the background color of the body is white because otherwise who knows what it might end up.
Eh...Internet Explorer lets you pick all kinds of default background colors...or at least it used to. However,
bgcolor
is deprecated in HTML 4.01 and obsolete in HTML5, and the CSS propertybackground
orbackground-color
should be used instead.I agree with all the other things here that I understand.
Thanks! I needed a god laugh right now :)
I always code in party mode.
I lost it at Party Mode!
OMG this is great xD
"Good luck with that hoss. Nice charset too." Can't tell you how many times I've said that.
I may be two years too late, but this is gold. 😆
I'm sad there's no Party Mode for ST3 :(
I wanted to leave a like but I'm a hormonal teenager and there's already 69 likes on this post.
I always set a body background colour, I remember so many websites years ago that didn't and when people customise or install a theme on their PC where the browser/window background is a wacky colour it makes your site look very broken indeed :D
On really old IE versions, the background is light gray by default.
The closest thing you're getting to party mode :P Atom's Power Mode
> And of course make sure you only style those
li
's that are decendents of aul
too, because they so often aren't.Did you forget about
ol
tags? Also, since when is "descendant" spelled without an "s"?!
Don't forget .y-hdr-txt and y-ln-1, they work best
Btw, about the "updateAllImages", he used (lowerCamelCase) where the first word is the only word that doesn't start with a capitalized letter which made the "i" in images look like an L
this is hilarious
Credit where it's due, you nailed this post.
For those being pernickety about the ul/ol li's, I'd question why anyone would have an ordered list in the (#nav)igation anyway... Have to say this post got me chuckling to myself at my desk this morning!
>"Listen I can do this OK because I've never written any bad code in my life."
That s very intimidating, I've written a massive amount of bad code in my life, like unbelievably massive. Like 30% of what I've written is not only not debugged I've never even run it once. I write bade code morning, night... I write bad code before I write bad code, and then I write some more!
this is good shit though I love the writing upside down inverted on transparent glass where do you even buy one of those ?
