  Jermaine Cole AKA J. Cole was born in Germany on a military base and at eight months moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina with his mother and brother. Cole graduated with a 4.2 GPA from high school and accepted a scholarship to St. John's university. He graduated manga cum laude with a 3.8 GPA in 2007 with a degree in business and communication.

  Cole was first chair violinist for the Terry Sanford Orchestra until 2003. He begain rapping at age 12 and started growing a passion for producing. His mother got him a $1,300 ASR-X when he was 15. In 2007 he released his first mixtape "The Come Up" and his second titled "The Warm Up" in 2009. He then landed features Jay Z and Wale until releasing his third mixtape titled "Friday Night Lights" in 2010.
  In 2011 Cole released his album "Cole World: The Sideline Story" and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. Between 2012 and 2013 Cole released his second album "Born Sinner" and two EP's "Truly Yours" and "Truly Yours 2". "Born Sinner" debuted second on the US Billboard 200 chart. Cole's third studio album was titled "2014 Forest Hills Drive" and was certified platinum and won Top Rap Album at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and Album of the Year at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards. 2016 Cole released "4 Your Eyez Only" following an HBO documentary titled "J. Cole 4 Your Eyez Only". This album was created from a storyline of his friend and takes us down a path through his life of selling crack to falling in love and eventually up to his death and leaves a message for his daughter.
  Cole's next album "KOD" introduced his alter ego Kill Edward. This album covered many hard to talk about topics like drug abuse, depression, drug addiction and greed. After that album Cole took some time to work on producing in which his production company Dreamville released a compilation album "Revenge of the Dreamers III" which featured 35 artists and 27 producers. His collaborationn with 21 Savage earned him his first grammy for the song "A Lot". J. Cole's most recent album "The Off Season" was released May of 2021. This album was one more check off his list with more to come.
