CodePen probably won't work great in this browser. We generally only support the major desktop browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Use this one at your own risk! If you're looking to test things, try looking at Pens/Projects in Debug View.

Pure CSS extension that adds a fade transition to the Bootstrap Carousel.

  1. This is a great pen. Just wanted to point out that it needs some tweaks to work with the latest version of bootstrap (3.3.4 at the time of writing).

    They made some changes in the last few versions to implement hardware powered css transitions using transform-3d which causes glitches.

    When I update your pen to use the latest bootstrap then at the transition it flashes white before crossfading from white to the new slide.

    I wrestled with this recently for a different carousel effect so this might help you isolate the new updates: http://codepen.io/rtpHarry/pen/YPBydd

  2. Hello. Excellent pen @Rowno, thank you very much! I used it right now. About @rtpHarry says, here goes some code to correct that in the latest version of Bootstrap (v3.3.5):

    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item {
        transition-property: opacity;
    }
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.active.left {
        opacity: 0;
    }
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.active,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.next.left {
        opacity: 1;
    }
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .next,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .prev,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .active.left,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .active.right {
        left: 0;
    }
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.next,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.active.right,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.prev,
    .carousel-fade .carousel-inner > .item.active.left {
        transform: translate3d(0, 0, 0);
    }

    Hope to help you guys somehow as well. Regards!

  3. I've updated it to Bootstrap 3.3.5, enjoy. :)

  4. Exelent, thanks for sharing...

  5. makala @makalainspiration on

    This has no containment.. I don't know whats wrong, but it doesn't work on a webpage..

  6. For BS4 just replace .item with .carousel-item so it's working then. Thx for this pen!

  7. Great Pen! :D Thank you so much!

  8. Hi Guys / Girls / Roland,

    Love the Carousel. It's being used in a Wordpress template that I have purchased from Themeforest. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a question?

    Does the carousel fade in mobile device browsers? At the moment I have it working in desktop browsers but on mobile the images just jump to the next rather than fade. I've spoke to the developer of the template and he recommends it shouldn't be used for fade in mobile, but wanted to check as it is a shame.

    My website is http://www.ebsofttissuetherapy.com

    Thanks Dan

  9. @danpassaro It works fine for me on mobile, the theme author probably broke one of the styles in a media query.

  10. Hey Roland, thanks for that - I wanted to check if the slider did work on mobile in the first place.

    I'll go back to them again and ask. They referred me to you. If they prove unhelpful, is this something you can help fix?

    Thanks Dan

  11. This is just what I was looking for, but when I add it to a site with images in the item containers, all of the images are displayed on screen and all change

    The site I am working on is herer http://79.170.44.128/nsr13.co.uk/ it is for a speedway rider

  12. Simple yet perfect!
