                        <dd>Family moved to a 20-acre cotton farm in northeast AR. During his youth, Johnny learned to play the guitar and was influenced by folk songs, hymns, work songs, Irish and gospel music, as well as the realities of life during the Great Depression</dd>
                      <dt>1950</dt>
                        <dd>Enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany as a Morse Code operator</dd>
                      <dt>1954</dt>
                        <dd>Married his first wife, Vivian Liberto; they had four children and, in 1966, were divorced as a result of Johnny&#8217;s addition to prescription drugs and alcohol</dd>
                      <dt>Mid-1950s to mid-1960s</dt>
                        <dd>Recorded many hit songs, including <i>I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, The Ballad of Ira Hayes, </i>and <i>Understand Your Man</i>. Made appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show and performed over 200 shows a year</dd>
