          He also had several odd jobs, including taxi driver and hotdog vendor, before becoming a teacher.

          His other achievements include:

            <li>Running for the New York State Senate in 1985 and 1988</li>
            <li>Being named New York City Teacher of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 1991, and New York State Teacher of the Year also in 1991. On that same year he quit teaching, claiming that he was no longer willing to hurt children.</li>
            <li><strong>1992</strong> he was named Secretary of Education in the Libertarian Party Shadow Cabinet</li>
            <li><strong>1997</strong> he was given the Alexis de Tocqueville Award of Excellence in Advancement of Educational Freedom</li>
