      <p class = "lead">Mary Renault (1905-1983) was a writer, famous especially for her 'Greek' novels. These books are historical fiction with some mythical elements. They paint a vibrant and emotionally engaging picturing of bronze age life and plausible retellings of ancient myths. She also wrote a trilogy and a non-fiction book on the life of Alexander the Great.</p> 
    <p>Her books included open homosexuality in a time when that was still highly controversial. She herself was also openly homosexual and spent most of her life with her partner Julie Mullard, who she met in nursing school.
